Creative Curriculum - The Romans

In our Creative Curriculum topic we have been learning about all areas of Roman life from amphitheatres to amphorae.
The Roman Army

Did you know that the Roman Army used to make 'turtles' using their rounded shields? This was to protect themselves from missiles. We made some shields.
We have learned about Roman houses. We even made our own grape punch! Some of us weren't sure about the dates! The Romans covered their floors with mosiacs. Here are some of our clay mosiacs that Mr Curry, our Year 3 govenor, helped us make.
In Literacy we were learning about Reports. Each group carried out some research and then presented it to the rest of the class. We used the internet and non-fiction books to gain information. The following week, we wrote our reports using factual sentences and headings.
Roman schools were very different. Did you know that girls didn't go to school? We tried learning some Latin and did some calculations using Roman numerals. The Roman children didn't have the things we enjoy today. There were no computers or cinemas. They used to play a game called 'Knucklebones'.
